Coal Town.

I remember first learning about mountain top removal in Appalachia during a high school social class. Due to the second-hand stories I heard, I held a negative view of coal. There was a focus on the destructive impact it had on the environment and communities when it was no longer profitable. My opinion was merely formed based on the experience of others in a foreign place. Since moving to the Pass, an area that has been sustained by coal, I realized the complexity of the issue. I've tried to gather a variety of opinions on the topic and appreciate the diversity of thoughts. I find it promising knowing there is a healthy split of people who are concerned about the environmental impacts and those concerned about the economic well-being of fellow neighbours. It's easy to become polarized on such topics.
