Garden Hopes & An Image.

The light and shadows create strong lines throughout the photo until the young sapling subtly breaks the repetition.

My dreaming of the garden season has begun. As soon as we enter into the new year, I find myself imagining what I'm going to grow in the upcoming summer. This year is a bit different because the community garden I grew in last year is moving, which means there won't be space to grow this season. The garden beds I grew in last year, at the school, are also not an option because I’m no longer working there. All this to say, I miss the large space we had in Bonnyville and I hope to find somewhere that will accommodate my desire to grow food.

I also want to talk about the featured image this week. It is probably one of my favourites from last winter due to its' graphical nature. The light and shadows create strong lines throughout the photo until the young sapling subtly breaks the repetition. Also, the mouse tracks in the snow contrast the other bold elements well and bring the allusion of life to the scene. You can see a few versions I shared in the grid below where I tried different crops and a black and white version. The featured image is the one that is the most simple and communicates the vision I had clearest.

Thanks for reading. I would love to hear where you plan on growing food this summer or which version of the photo you like best. You can comment or feel free to email me directly.
