My Last Day as an EA.

I just completed my last week of working at the school as an Educational Assitant. It was only the previous week that I realized I had been an EA for three years but had never made it through an entire school year without leaving early for a different job or starting late. To me, this is an indicator that I cannot sustainably or healthily do this work. There is an immense toll it takes on folks mentally, emotionally and sometimes physically. The people who work in the schools in this capacity long term are truly doing holy work. Every day they work alongside the most challenging students within a highly restrictive and methodologically narrow education system. I will miss working with the staff, who are so kind and caring that it motivated me to do my work as skillfully as possible, even when I was merely a shell. Thank you to all I have learned from and worked alongside in this challenging line of work.
